Robbie Z – “Anemoia”

Robbie Z’s new EP Anemoia is probably his most interesting release so far. He’s been making music since he was a teenager, but this one feels like he’s figured out exactly the kind of world he wants to build. The whole idea behind Anemoia is nostalgia for moments you’ve never actually lived.

The sound jumps around in the best way. You get bits of early 2010s EDM-pop, surf rock, pop rap, indie, and slower, softer stuff too. Somehow it still feels like one solid project. Nothing feels out of place. It’s got that summer haze to it with fast crushes, daydreaming, heartbreak, and the whole mix. You can tell he’s playing around more with his sound and pushing himself to try new things. Tracks that stand out are “THE SUN IS LOUD” and “Anemoia”, and the one that I love is “FISH”.

Robbie’s always had a loud, confident style, and that still comes through here. But there’s a little more focus this time. He said he wanted to release music more often and experiment more, and you can hear that happening on this project.
