Olav Larsen & The Alabama Rodeo Stars – “Stream of consciousness, Vol. 2”

I’ve been listening to Olav Larsen’s work for a while now and the latest album ‘Stream of Consciousness, Vol. 2’ is right up my alley. This Norwegian country artist continues to prove why he is one of the most genuine voices in Americana today.

Olav’s voice has that weathered quality that makes every word sound earned. His delivery is raw and it reminds me why I fell in love with country music in the first place. It’s honest songwriting and solid performances, no fancy production tricks.

The Alabama Rodeo Stars back him up perfectly throughout the record. The band knows when to step forward and when to fade into the background, allowing Larsen’s stories to breathe. The guitar work is particularly strong, with some beautiful slide moments that don’t overdo it, but add just the right amount of texture.

Several tracks are given depth by the harmonies with the female vocalists, these beautiful moments stay with you long after the songs end. “Dreamer” is my favorite track on the album and I’m sure you will love it

This is comfort music for those who prefer authenticity over polish. Larsen continues to show that great country music doesn’t have to follow trends or chase radio plays. The best albums sometimes are the ones that tell good stories with heart.
