DBsock – “The Journey”

Hey everyone! I’m so excited about DBsock’s debut EP “The Journey” that I had to tell you all about it. I was blown away by this release from the first time I heard it and I haven’t stopped listening to it since I discovered it, it came out on May 20th.

DBsock was created by Mingwei Gao, who has made something truly unique. Her combination of trip-hop and art pop gives her music a dreamy, otherworldly feel that draws you into her world. Her voice is truly amazing – the high notes in “Swing” and “Grow Me The Wings” are angelic and her lower tones in “Root” and “Outro” prove how wide her range is. And trust me, it’s hard to pick just one favorite track but I will go for “Root” which really stuck in my head all day.

The way the story is told in this EP is truly impressive. She guides you through a story about a goddess who begins by watching from the sidelines and ends up understanding that she must fall before she can truly help people. It’s really one of our favorite EPs of the year. Her lyrics and the way she designs her music give the song a melancholic feeling that lingers even after it ends. You can see her artistic vision in every song, as she mixes the styles of FKA twigs and Björk with her own unique sound.

This EP captures everything I love about music that is both innovative and emotional and you should follow DBsock on social media because “The Journey” is music that everyone who loves thoughtful, well-made songs should hear.
