Transgalactica – “Liberal Anthem”

Transgalactica is back with their third single, “Liberal Anthem”, off their debut album “Better Angels”. It’s one of their more thought-provoking tracks so far.

The idea came from a passage in Steven Pinker’s “Enlightenment Now”, where he talks about how there’s no “liberal church” that celebrates liberal thinkers. Pinker didn’t necessarily think we need one, but Transgalactica clearly had other thoughts. They took that idea and ran with it, writing a song that tries to reflect the positive ideals of liberalism, like human rights, well-being, and a more humane world.

What’s cool is that they didn’t take a typical musical route, the “hard-rock” section that pushes back on populism is actually influenced by a Polish song from the 1500s. Then it shifts gears into an anthem-like section that nods to “All Tomorrow’s Parties” by Velvet Underground. That mix of inspiration, from old folk melodies to experimental rock, makes this track feel layered in a way that’s pretty unique.

If you’re into music with a point of view, “Liberal Anthem” is worth a listen, definitely keep an eye on Transgalactica and follow them on socials to stay updated on new releases in the rest of 2025.
