TIRED – “Tales of Middle Age”
TIRED is a depressed dad rock band from Birmingham, UK. Their debut album, Tales of Middle Age, came out of a midlife crisis and a creative itch that sat around left unscratched for way too long. They combine post-punk, stoner rock, indie, metal, and post-rock to laugh at the boring parts of daily life.
Feeding Children and Onomanosphere are my two favorite songs on the project. Feeding Children starts the whole thing off with a raw, loud style that shows off their heavy guitar sound. Onomanosphere lands right in the middle of the tracklist, bringing sharp post-punk energy and stoner rock grit to make fun of the usual daily routine. The rest of the album moves right along through songs like A Message From Your CEO, Youth of Today, Ode to Running, All My Friends Are Mentally Ill, Self-Made Man, Going of Age, and Bedtime Stories.
Listening to the ten tracks takes just over thirty-four minutes, so the whole record moves quickly without feeling slow. The group took inspiration from the heavy metal history and local bin strikes of Birmingham, grabbed their gear, and turned the full burnout of getting older into a fun, loud album. It sounds like three friends playing in a room because they needed an outlet, and that honest effort is what makes it fun to hear.
If you are tired of how the world is today, this project gives you something genuine to turn on and enjoy. You can stream the album or order physical copies on CD and vinyl if you prefer owning music. It feels like a solid effort from start to finish, and it shows that getting older does not mean you have to stop making noise. Be sure to follow TIRED on their social media accounts so you can stay updated on all their new releases this year!
