tcr! – “Yesterday Blurs”

“Yesterday Blurs” by tcr! is the kind of track that catches you off guard. You press play expecting one thing and get something that’s harder to pin down. It’s anxious and bouncy at the same time, it’s really one of the best releases we discovered this month so far.

The song is about memory and how it messes with you; this is why I love it. The line “yesterday blurs but it’s not dismissed” sticks with you. That’s the whole song right there, really. When I finished the track, I was like, ” Wow”, then I checked the artist’s previous releases, like “Farm, Electric”, and I was impressed.

What I appreciate about tcr! here is that nothing sounds like it’s performing. A lot of music in this space tries too hard to signal that it’s deep or different. This one just gets on with it. The production is rough around the edges in a way that matches the mood perfectly. Jagged but melodic. Unsettled but not chaotic. It walks that line without making a big deal out of it.

Personally, I think this is the kind of track you put on when you want something that actually says something without lecturing you about it.
