Lucian Lacewing – “Ghosts Made Flesh”

Cold autumn nights always bring out strange thoughts of old ghost stories. “Ghosts Made Flesh” captures that exact chilling mood by drawing heavily on the ancient Pagan holy day of Samhain. Long ago, the Celts viewed this period as the start of the dark half of the year when the boundary to unearthly realms grew paper thin and restless dead wandered freely. People wore ghoulish disguises to blend in with those wandering spirits so they could walk around safely without trouble. This song channels that spooky atmosphere completely, pulling old folklore right into modern speakers with raw power.

The vocal work brings incredible power to the piece. Qualia Cascade, Annette Buckley, Tanya Goknel, Julie Baker, Claire Few, Laura Peglar, Sarah Joy Pearson, and Eleanor Murphy combine their talents to create a haunting wall of sound. Two minutes in, a robot choir arrives suddenly, serving as an obvious and brilliant homage to Nico, and it introduces a strange robotic chill that cuts past the organic instrumentation and elevates the entire composition into something unforgettable.

As the song moves forward, the middle eight shifts into a proper tribute to classic Krautrock, pulling heavy inspiration from Harmonia and Cluster, and that hypnotic groove grounds the madness before giving way to an orchestral conclusion. This final section acts as a reverent nod to Anne Dudley and Jocelyn Pook, wrapping the entire recording in sweeping cinematic strings that linger long after the final note stops playing.

Lucian Lacewing created something genuinely bold here, blending historical folklore with avant-garde electronic and classical elements into a single cohesive piece. The track is fearless and unapologetic, trading easy pop structures for deep sonic exploration that rewards patient ears and demands repeat listens. Alongside this music, the promotional video series titled “Samhain Stories” arriving in the nine days leading up to the holiday shows just how committed the artist is to building a complete immersive world.
