Kim McClay – “Worth It”

Kim McClay has an incredible sound happening on her Worth It EP and it starts strong with Velveteen Girls, an alternative rock anthem that feels bold and messy. The track brings a fantastic 90s alt-pop vibe mixed with childhood nostalgia, creating a loud, defiant track that you just want to scream along with.

The songwriting is honest and direct. Kim wrote these tracks on her acoustic guitar before her band layered in heavy drums and gritty rock elements. You can feel that raw indie-folk foundation underneath the heavier sounds. Songs like Firefly and the title track, Worth It, carry a lot of frustration, acting as bold calls to action that challenge you to face discomfort directly.

By the time the EP reaches So Close and Something Like Love, the sound moves into a softer, more reflective folk-rock space. These tracks dive into the reality of romantic love and heartbreak, sharing personal stories about being stuck on someone for two years while the world moves on. It is vulnerable but shows a lot of resilience.

If you want a record that is explosive, raw, and captures the complications of human connection, this is a great project to check out. Follow Kim McClay on her social media platforms to see what else she is up to in the rest of this year.
