Kevin Driscoll – “The Maine Thing”

Kevin Driscoll new single “The Maine Thing” is my favorite of the week, it’s got this quiet confidence to it, not flashy or overproduced, just real, thoughtful, and kind of hypnotic in its simplicity. You can tell it came from a personal place. Apparently, the whole idea started with a guitar riff he came up with while walking around the coast of Maine, and the song just grew from there, that vibe definitely carries into the final version.
Kevin handled almost everything on this track himself: vocals, instruments, the whole deal, except for a violin part by Damien Bolotin that honestly fits the song perfectly. It’s subtle but adds something special without taking over. The production’s tight but doesn’t feel polished in a way that loses the emotion, it feels like he’s playing right in the room with you, which is hard to pull off well. The way it was mixed makes the whole thing feel close, kind of like you’re being let in on a private thought.
If you’re into acoustic songs that actually mean something, this one’s worth a listen, definitely keep an eye on Kevin Driscoll and follow him on socials to catch whatever else he’s putting out this year.
