John Deering – “Slow Dance”

John Deering shared with us this incredible track titled “Slow Dance”, and it’s one that really sticks with you. Based in Minneapolis, John pulled in a couple of heavy hitters for this track, Peter Anderson on drums and Ryan Smith from Soul Asylum on bass. That alone gives the song some serious roots, but it’s the story behind it that makes it hit harder.
The idea for “Slow Dance” came from a quiet moment, John saw a scene in a movie where a woman was dancing with someone, and it sparked this whole narrative in his mind. He imagined her as someone who’s built a full life on her own but still misses out on those simple, emotional moments.
Peter’s drumming gives it structure, and Ryan’s bass playing adds a little drive underneath. John recorded most of it in his basement, which kind of adds to how personal and direct it feels. You can tell this song means something to him. “Slow Dance” is his fourth single so far, if you’re into thoughtful songwriting, it’s worth checking out.
