Ho Jo Fro – “Mudville (Well, Well, Well, Well)”

Ho Jo Fro’s latest song, “Mudville (Well, Well, Well, Well)”, is both classic and new wave energy. The striking vocals of Iyla Elise and Paul R Johnson make for an impassioned tale of love rediscovered and the pain of past departures, set against a backdrop of tight instrumentals from a talented band. The unexpected snare drum solo with a well-placed, belated trumpet is just as explosive as it is memorable.

Oh, the way this song keeps threading complex emotions into a melody that never fails to make me hit replay. If you’re a fan of vivid storytelling and robust arrangements, do yourself a favor, friend, and follow Ho Jo Fro on socials to catch their latest updates and tour dates. You will not want to miss what they come up with next.

  1. Maddie, thank you for the excellent article about our new single “Mudville (Well, Well, Well, Well).” I appreciate the positive and thoughtful review. Your writing is top notch, and your observations are spot on. Tim, the engineer on the song, debated with me over the snare drum break. I had Jim the drummer record it as an overlay using a different-sounding snare drum. I felt the song needed it. I appreciate the vote of support on it. I am returning to the studio tomorrow to prepare a second version of the song, which I am calling “Whoville” for release on New Year’s Day. I would like to return to you for a second article when the time comes. Sincerely, Paul of Ho Jo Fro (the band) and Derringer Discoveries (the podcast)
