Dog Years – “Play Nice”

Dog Years’ new single “Play Nice” is loud, catchy, and weird in the best way. It’s the second track from their upcoming album MEGAFAUNA and it doesn’t waste any time. There’s a sense of tension in the way the guitars crash around, but it’s balanced by Carly Fee’s bright harmonies. It’s got that mix of raw and polished that makes you want to listen again, mostly because you’re trying to figure out what exactly just hit you.

The song pulls from 60s melody and 90s alt-rock fuzz, but it doesn’t feel like a throwback, and it sounds like four people who’ve been through some stuff, packed into a practice room and playing like it matters. That’s basically how they made it, between jobs, parenting, and a bunch of outside noise, they managed to pull together something that really sticks. There’s a lot going on under the surface if you want to dig into it, but you don’t need to. You can sing along, get a bit lost in it, and then move on with a grin.

If this is where MEGAFAUNA is heading, it’s worth keeping an eye on. Follow Dog Years on social media to catch more of what they’ve got lined up this year.
