Daph Veil – “Bloodsucker”
Daph Veil is the solo project of Austin musician Paula Laubach, and her new single “Bloodsucker” is a striking listen. The track is pulling together alt-rock, shoegaze, electronic, and blues, the mix keeps the song unpredictable, shifting gears in a way that holds attention from start to finish.
The progression of the song mirrors the story behind it, it starts with calm, almost polished tones that feel inviting, then gradually unravels into noise and chaos and then you admire the song. When the drums kick in at full force, the energy flips into something volatile and the rich vocals add even more intensity, suggesting the divide between the surface we show and the turmoil underneath.
Produced by Matt Parmenter at Ice Cream Factory Studio in Austin, “Bloodsucker” also highlights Daph Veil’s independent streak. She played nearly every instrument on the track, with drums recorded by Joe Valadez. Rebecca Price contributed lyrics that give the song sharp, cutting images, deepening its emotional punch. The collaboration results in a track that feels personal but still broad enough to connect with anyone listening.
“Bloodsucker” is streaming now on all major platforms. To keep up with Daph Veil and hear more new music in 2025, make sure to follow along on social media.
