Chellcy Reitsma – “Carpe Diem”
Chellcy Reitsma’s Carpe Diem feels like the work of someone who’s lived a lot of life and knows how to turn it into sound. She’s a Dutch American singer-songwriter mixing Blues, Alt rock, Rockabilly, and Americana with a cool retro flavor and that film noir edge she’s known for. It’s the kind of record that doesn’t rush you. It draws you in, one track at a time.
The mix of styles keeps it interesting, and some songs move with a bluesy stomp, while others slow down and carry a softer, folky tone. It’s one of the best releases I’ve heard in the last couple of weeks and if I had to pick just one favorite track, that would definitely be “Chemicals”. Chellcy’s background as a visual artist and poet adds another layer. You can picture the scenes behind the music. Not in a cinematic way, but like snapshots from her own world. The whole thing feels grounded, thoughtful, and a little nostalgic without being stuck in the past.
Carpe Diem is the kind of album you want to sit with for a while. Check it out and follow Chellcy Reitsma on social media to stay tuned for her next releases in 2025.
