BLUES CORNER – “All That We Are”
BLUES CORNER is the Paris-based project of Phil Roman and Seb Oroval, and their album “All That We Are”, released in February, comes from a very personal place. The record grew out of a long friendship between the two musicians and their shared passion for blues. After spending years building an international career in London, Phil eventually settled again in France, which opened the door to reconnect with music in a more honest and personal way alongside Seb.
“All That We Are” explores different sides of blues without losing sight of its roots. Some songs take inspiration from the raw sound linked with the Mississippi Delta, while others bring in a warmer mix connected to country blues and Americana. There is also a stronger blues rock side inspired by the energy associated with Texas. The album was recorded at La Battamobile studio under the artistic direction of Bruno Dandrimont, and the sessions included an experienced rhythm section as well as respected guests such as Sonny Landreth, Fred Chapellier, and Marco Cinelli.
One moment that stands out on the record is “Piggy Bank Blues”, which talks about everyday financial pressure and the sacrifices many people deal with in real life. Also, “Stone in My Shoe” and “The Blues Is About Giving All What We Are” grabbed my attention. That honest angle gives the album a relatable spirit, and the duo approaches the style with a lot of respect for its history while still making it their own.
