Ash Red – “DB COOPER”

Ash Red’s new single “DB COOPER” is a solid and unique warm-up to their upcoming debut album, “The Foreign Game”. If you haven’t heard of them yet, they’re a three-piece alt-rock/post punk band from Cork, and this track shows off what they do best, their raw energy, a sense of rebellion, and dark humor baked right into the lyrics.
The backstory is pretty funny, it started with a half-finished song and a band practice tangent about John Cooper Clarke, which spiraled into a second verse about the famous hijacker D.B. Cooper, it’s safe to say it’s one of the most creative tracks I’ve heard in the last couple of months. That kind of spontaneous creativity is all over this track. The lyrics are blunt and chaotic, kind of like a guy spiraling out but laughing the whole way down, it walks a line between reckless fun and something a bit heavier.
If you’re into bands that don’t overthink things and just make gritty, honest rock music, Ash Red is worth keeping on your radar. “DB COOPER” doesn’t pretend to be polished or profound, and that’s what makes it stick. Check it out, and definitely follow them on socials to keep up with what they’re dropping in the rest of 2025.
