Anwai – “4ever HD”

Anwai’s 4ever HD is the kind of EP that makes a long gap easy to forgive. Mons Lorenzen and Amadeus have been building this project for years, and this release comes across like two people getting back into step with each other in a very natural way and the mix of pop, trip hop, and indietronica gives the EP a chilled, steady sound that stays engaging without trying too hard. It has a relaxed character, but there is still enough detail in it to keep you locked in from start to finish.

There is also something very real about the story behind it. After being quiet for a few years, the duo found new energy after big changes in their personal lives, and that renewed focus gives 4ever HD a strong sense of purpose. “SOMETHING NEW” and “FLWRS” deserve your full attention.

The home recording process suits Anwai well too. Sending ideas back and forth between Logic and Ableton, recording at home, and even mixing at a pub gives the EP a personal touch that fits the whole release. It sounds close, honest, and fully their own. I really enjoyed this one, and I think it does a great job of opening a new chapter without losing sight of everything that came before. Go check out Anwai’s earlier releases too, follow the artist, and see how this new EP fits into that path. Are you into artists who come back after a long break and still sound this sure of themselves?
