Land Mass – “Fading”

Finding music that is entirely honest can be tough, but the new five-track collection “Fading” by Land Mass hits a sweet spot perfectly. Greg Zucker created the entire project alone in his East London flat, handling every single bit of writing, recording, and mixing. It is completely solo work, and you can really hear that raw, direct connection in every single minute. The tracks reflect a personal way of processing difficult life struggles and chaotic global events. You get a real sense that this music needed to exist for its creator, acting as a final sense of closure for him.

The sound fits right into the alt indie rock world, drawing beautiful inspiration from bands like The National, Slowdive, Nothing, Gravenhurst, and Sparklehorse. Even though the collection flows beautifully from start to finish, the actual tracks offer an impressive amount of variety. For instance, “Trojan Horses” brings a surprisingly poppy, uptempo energy to the table. On the other end of the spectrum, the massive six-minute track “I’ll Follow You” unfolds as an expansive, deeply immersive soundscape. Other entries like “Evader” and “Head On The Ground” add great layers to the tracklist. My personal absolute favorite point on the project is definitely “Green Parakeet” which packs an incredible emotional punch in just about two minutes.

Every single moment sounds natural and completely authentic because there was zero outside input to dilute the vision. I completely love this release, and I honestly think Land Mass has crafted something special. It is easily one of the finest and most moving collections of the entire year.
