Solar Flare Alert – “Disco Au Soleil”
Solar Flare Alert just put out their debut album, Disco Au Soleil, through Katekatashe Records, and it hits exactly where it needs to. It is an eight-track run that swings from 108 to 128 BPM, mixing upfront vocals, live instruments, and electronic elements into something that feels entirely alive.
If you want a quick entry point, head straight for the lead single, “Sott ‘e ‘Ngopp”. It runs on a heavy Moog Subharmonicon groove alongside Christian Palermo’s live percussion and Salvo Palermo’s bass. The track brings a massive wave of energy, channeling a specific style of horns reminiscent of James Brown mixed with the warmth of Curtis Mayfield. The hook is delivered in a Neapolitan dialect, centering around a chaotic theme about dealing with too many hassles. It shifts between three languages in a single line, telling you to open your eyes to get a handle on the mess.
The title track, “Disco Au Soleil”, serves as a massive French Touch peak where Erika Neri’s vocals act like a siren. Another standout is “Sentimento Lento”, an electronic, house-heavy track with wild choirs and all-Italian vocals over intense brass. If you want pure disco, “Mondo Disco” delivers a cool, tongue-in-cheek groove.
