Sandra Vriese – “Spotlight!”
The new single “Spotlight!” by Sandra Vriese is a refreshing dose of pure energy that immediately grabs you. Hailing from Hummelo, Netherlands, Sandra has built a sound that pulls from excellent places. You can hear the big soul harmonies reminiscent of En Vogue and the punchy, positive drive of Pink, but she makes it entirely her own. She wrote the track herself and brought in her live band, a crew she put together in 2024 consisting of a guitar player, bass player, and drummer. Together, they give the track a whole lot of power and love.
The track kicks off with a clear nod to the iconic intro of “Free your mind”, a specific childhood goal Sandra had always wanted to pull off. From there, it locks into a great groove inspired by the carefree spirit of Pink’s “Get the party started”. The lyrics tackle a really relatable feeling. It is all about a busy adult life, being totally over-scheduled, and missing those young, impulsive Friday nights when you could just call up friends and figure out what to do on a whim. It captures that nostalgia for total freedom without any heavy responsibilities hanging over your head the next morning.
The production choice is why this record works so well. Sandra and her band recorded everything independently, using an external mixer but staying completely hands-on. Sandra even handled the final master herself to make sure the track stayed true to her vision. You get these great soul harmonies mixed with rhythmic accents that turn in unexpected directions. It sounds crisp but retains an authentic, uncompromised indie identity. Sandra is one of the most talented artists I’ve come across in the last couple of days, and it deserves your full attention.
I absolutely love this single, and it makes me excited to see her stand on the podium. If you enjoy this track, you should definitely check out her previous releases. Sandra Vriese is an incredibly dedicated, independent artist who is worth following as she continues putting out music. She already has another single lined up for August 2026, so make sure to follow Sandra Vriese online to stay updated on everything she has coming in the rest of this year.
