Electric Horseman – “Under the Weather”

Electric Horseman just put out their second album, “Under the Weather”, and it is an absolute joy to experience. This Darmstadt based six piece band recorded the whole eight track project to tape in just a single week. You can really hear that raw energy in the music, which was built around live performances and quick decisions in the studio. Most tracks started with a strong rhythm section take as the core foundation, with extra guitars, vocals, and keyboards layered on top later. The original performance stays right at the center of each arrangement.

The band combines guitar driven indie rock with deep folk rock roots, delivering intertwined guitars, rich vocal harmonies, and lovely psychedelic textures. It is an amazing mix for fans who appreciate bands like Wilco, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Israel Nash, or The War on Drugs.

The songs look closely at the fragile spaces between people. The characters drift apart, try to reconnect, leave, wait, and search for answers. The focus track, “Phoenix”, captures this idea with a great recurring guitar riff and a driving rhythm section. It follows a character whose curiosity leads him astray, focusing on understanding where people end up rather than judging them. After a rollout of seven singles, having all eight songs together in one cohesive album makes perfect sense. My favorites are “Night Alliance” and “Phoenix”.

I absolutely love this album. The performances are incredibly honest, and the songwriting is deeply grounding. You should definitely go back and check out the previous releases from Electric Horseman to see how their journey evolved.

To make sure you do not miss anything else from them, you should definitely go follow Electric Horseman on Spotify, YouTube, or Instagram right now. Following them is the best way to stay completely updated about any new music they might share during the rest of this year, and supporting an independent six piece band like this directly helps them keep making incredible music. They are a genuinely talented group of musicians who put a lot of heart into their craft, so keeping up with their journey is completely worth your time.
