Cello – “Like A Tiger”

I love when you can hear a musician’s whole record collection hiding inside a track, and Brighton solo artist Cello does exactly that on her third single, “Like A Tiger”. It gives a massive nod to classic influences, sitting right between the heavy disco beat of Robyn, the glam rock swagger of Bolan, and the pop confidence of early Madonna.

The track relies on driving funk guitars that grab you immediately and it dives straight into the feeling of being an alien or a complete outsider, exploring that deep sense of otherness. But instead of treating that isolation like a bad thing, it flips the script. It turns into a massive celebration of your own strangeness, making you want to love whatever makes you different.

It turns out Cello started writing her own material during lockdown after years of touring internationally as a professional cellist. She teamed up with producer JB, who previously worked with acts like Primal Scream, to build her upcoming autumn 2026 debut album, Kung Fu Disco. They recorded the project at The Metway, which belongs to The Levellers, and you can feel that free, experimental energy vibrating through this single. It makes me excited to hear how the rest of the record shapes up. Go follow Cello on Instagram and YouTube to keep up with everything she is doing this year.
