Chaidura – “Plastic Beauty”

Chaidura is a London-based alternative artist, and his new single “Plastic Beauty” is the third track off his upcoming 5-track EP, LIMINAL. If the previous singles Heaven and Addiction gave you any idea of where he’s headed, this one takes it further.

The song digs into something real, the pressure to look a certain way, especially in cultures where appearance gets treated like a job requirement and Chaidura grew up in Asia, and you can hear how personal this is. Soundwise, this thing goes everywhere, you’ve got heavy metalcore guitars, guttural growls, gospel choir moments, jazz breaks, glitchy electronics, and J-Rock-flavored melodies all showing up in the same track. That could easily fall apart, but it doesn’t. It’s chaotic in a way that fits the subject matter. A song about rejecting artificial perfection has no business sounding polished and neat. The verses pull you in with empathy, almost like he’s speaking directly to someone who’s struggling, and then the chorus hits like a wall. It’s a smart structure, and it works.

He’s also got a UK tour coming up this June, hitting Manchester, Glasgow, and London. Worth checking out live. If you haven’t been following Chaidura yet, give it a follow to keep up with new releases this year.
