Almost Morning – “halfen”
Almost Morning is a New York–based electronic artist building her own minimalist alt-pop world, and her EP “halfen” pushes that sound further into darker, more internal territory. This project feels focused and intentional from start to finish, without ever sounding forced.
My favorite track of the Ep is “talk to you”, built around a looping vocal line and heavy sub-bass. The repetition isn’t there to decorate the track, it becomes the emotional core, and the song stays in one headspace and lets it unfold slowly, reflecting that moment when reaching out to someone feels like too much. It doesn’t overexplain the feeling. It simply stays with it. Written and self-produced in her New York home studio during a period of burnout in 2024, the EP carries that sense of isolation in a very natural way and the arrangements focus on processed vocals, low-end pressure, and space. There’s patience in how everything is layered. Nothing feels random, and nothing feels added just to fill time. The restraint gives the songs their strength.
“halfen” moves through exhaustion, intimacy, and emotional distance without turning those ideas into slogans. It trusts the listener to sit inside the atmosphere and make their own sense of it. That approach makes the project stick with you long after it ends.
Almost Morning is clearly defining her lane in the alt-electronic space. If you want to keep up with where Almost Morning takes this sound next, follow her on social media and stay tuned for what she releases this year.
