Flo Crowe & The Dilemmas – “Shy Girl”
Flo Crowe & The Dilemmas have followed up their first single with Shy Girl, and it’s a strong move. They’re still new and pretty young, but there’s a sense that they know what they want their music to say. This one sticks to their mix of layered vocals, electro beats, and guitar that gives everything a bit of an edge. It’s my favorite track of the day.
The title might throw you off at first. But that’s kind of the point. It opens with the line “Outta my way”, which makes it clear this isn’t about playing it nice or quiet. There’s a message here that pushes back against the idea that women should always be polite, keep quiet, or make themselves small. That’s not the energy they’re bringing. And they make that known from the start without overexplaining it.
They’ve been getting more attention lately. They were on BBC Introducing and even played Boardmasters this year. That’s not nothing. It’s easy to see why people are paying attention, but they’re not jumping around trying to be whatever’s popular. They’re doing their thing, and Shy Girl keeps that going in the right way.
