Allan Jamisen – “Gotta Do”

Allan Jamisen’s new single “Gotta Do” sticks in your head because it feels real. He made it during a tough stretch in his life while balancing work, caring for his sick mother, and dealing with a difficult relationship. It’s safe to say it’s one of my favorite tracks of the week.

The track starts off simple, with light synths and a calm tone, then slowly builds into a stronger electronic groove. The repetition gives it power, not boredom. Each return of the line hits a bit harder, it’s minimal but feels complete, you can hear how personal it is too, especially knowing his mother’s voice is included in the background, that detail makes the whole thing hit closer to home.

He recorded parts of it in Phoenix and later took it to Denmark to finish with a small team. The result is honest and focused, never overdone. “Gotta Do” follows his earlier singles “Rock & Roll American” and “All I Am Is You”, and it fits right in with the thoughtful direction he’s heading.
