MOLETRAP – “Mid Welsh, Pt. 1”

MOLETRAP is a three-piece from Mid Wales, and their new EP “Mid Welsh, Pt. 1” is impressive, and I’m sure you will enjoy it. It’s five tracks that dig into what it means to be from Mid Wales, not the version you see on tourist brochures, but the one they grew up in, left, and slowly came to understand better over time.
The band mixes heavy guitars and melodic hooks in a way that feels gritty but thoughtful. You can hear their connection to the land in the energy of the music, from the moment you hit the play button, you will be transported to their universe, I guarantee it. Tracks like “Rhagofn” and “Middle of the Land” bring a raw, almost restless sound, while still being grounded in something personal. And the fact that they sing in both Welsh and English adds even more depth, like they’re honoring where they came from while making space for change.
What I really respect is that this isn’t nostalgia, it’s more like they’re working out what home means now, as adults, after years of pushing it away. You can tell the process of making this record meant a lot to them, and it shows. Definitely give “Mid Welsh, Pt. 1” a listen and follow MOLETRAP on socials to keep up with what’s coming next in 2025.
